What Are the Advantages of Choosing Invisalign for Teeth Alignment?

Over the years, with the help of cutting edge technology and advancements, orthodontics has significantly improved the way we fix crooked or misaligned teeth. Not only do crooked teeth dampen your confidence and allow you to eat better but they can cause further dental issues in the future such as periodontal disease, if left untreated. Although traditional metal braces are still a common procedure that is used by both adults and teenagers, many are now choosing to opt for invisalign.

Invisalign, or invisible aligners, is a great way to rectify misaligned teeth without the need for traditional metal braces. With improved technology, our dentists at the Art of Dentistry are able to create custom-made, removable aligners that will slowly shift your teeth into position over time. When worn properly, the procedure may last up to 18 months where you will begin to see improvement within the first 3 months of treatment, as long as you are following your treatment sequence precisely and switching your trays accordingly.

Other than the fact that you won’t need to walk around with obvious metal in your mouth, Invisalign braces offer a number of benefits to all of our patients. Here are some of the advantages of choosing Invisalign for teeth alignment:

Virtually Invisible

Having stronger and straighter teeth with a beautiful smile will positively impact your confidence but you may feel anxious or embarrassed if one of the first things people notice when talking to you is the metal brace across your teeth. Most adults want to improve the alignment of their teeth but avoid the treatment due to being put off by the idea of being confined to traditional metal braces. One of the main reasons that most people opt for invisible braces is because of their appearance, or should we say, the lack of. Invisalign is completely discreet which means you can avoid drawing any unwanted attention to yourself in public or social environments when talking, smiling or even eating.

Even though invisalign is virtually invisible, some of our patients have removed their aligner during a special event where they would rather avoid wearing the aligner altogether. Although the recommended time to wear your clear aligner is for a minimum of 20 hours a day to get optimal results, a few hours in one day of your entire 12-18 treatment won’t cause any harm. Just be sure to keep them in for the remainder of your treatment to avoid undoing the great work!

You can Eat Whatever you Want

Invisalign allows you to have more flexibility with your diet, unlike traditional braces. With traditional braces, you are limited to the types of food you can consume to avoid damaging the metal wires or getting any food stuck in them. Crunchy, chewy and hard foods such as apples, popcorn, chewing gum or nuts can be quite difficult to eat and should be avoided. Thankfully, with invisalign, you are advised to remove the aligners when you are ready to eat so you may do so comfortably.

Although you should always remove your aligner when eating, we advise that you floss and brush your teeth after each meal to avoid the buildup of food, plaque and the buildup of bacteria in your aligner. In fact, the only food or drink that should be consumed with the aligner in your mouth is water, cold or at room temperature.

Improved Oral Hygiene

The unfortunate truth of traditional braces is that you may be presented with new oral hygiene problems once they are removed such as stains on your teeth, cavities or even gingivitis. This is due to the difficulty that patients experience with maintaining proper care during the treatment where brushing and flossing can take a lot of careful time and practice to complete. When cleaning your teeth with traditional braces, you will need to carefully thread under, over and around each bracket where food debris is often stuck. Fortunately, invisalign makes upkeep with your oral hygiene a lot easier. All you have to do is remove the aligner and clean your teeth as usual. For extra measure, you should clean your invisalign tray with a soft bristled toothbrush and water or cleaning solution.

More Comfortable

Traditional dentists can be quite painful where they can cut into your lips and cheeks, especially after they have been tightened. This pain can last for a few days and even cause headaches or painful sores. You may also find it difficult to talk and eat with metal braces which is extremely uncomfortable for many of our patients. The comfortability of invisalign is a huge driving factor for our patients, especially those who have already experienced traditional braces as teenagers. Invisalign aligners are made from advanced plastic material that is smooth against your gums in comparison to traditional braces which prove to be intrusive. The added bonus is that you will be able to control the alignment of your teeth by following the recommended sequence every 2 weeks of new aligners.

Spend Less Time at the Dentist

Frequent visits to the dentist go hand in hand with traditional braces. This is usually for general maintenance or repair including bracket replacements, wire adjustments and tightening. This can be quite a time consuming process and as mentioned before, painful. Although we love seeing all of our patients, we know that you have busy lives and may not want to spend the entire Friday afternoon at the dentist, getting your braces altered.

When you opt for invisible braces, you won’t need to worry about making regular visits to the dentist. At the Art of Dentistry, we carefully curate a plan for your treatment so that you are able to switch out the aligners on your own, without the need for any extra work.

Invisalign is just as effective as traditional metal braces but without all of the added pain and metal. The treatment time is significantly less if you are following the instructions provided and changing your aligners at the right time as well as taking great care of both your teeth and aligners. Many of our patients have reported Invisalign to be the perfect solution with improved oral hygiene, a boost of confidence and successful results following the treatment.
